Sophie Turner has opened up about the challenges she faced following her divorce from Joe Jonas, admitting there were days when “she didn’t know if she would make it”.

The couple, together for eight years and married for four, announced their separation in 2023.

Today, the Game of Thrones star spoke out about the media storm surrounding the split, describing the period as “the worst days of his life.”

In a new interview with British Vogue, she shared: “There were days where I didn’t know if I was going to make it. I called my lawyer and said, “I can’t do this. I just can’t. I was just never strong enough to defend myself.

“And then, finally, after two weeks of routine, she reminded me that it was my children that I was fighting for.

“As soon as someone says to me, ‘Do it for your children,’ I do it. I wouldn’t do it for myself, but I will find strength for them.

At the time, Turner was in the UK filming her upcoming six-part ITV series, Joan, while Jonas and their two daughters, Willa, four, and Delphine, one, were in the US.

The internet was flooded with speculation about what went wrong, especially after reports surfaced claiming they broke up because she was partying too much, while others claimed the musician had caught the actress talking negatively about him on their Ring security camera.

She continued: “I had a contract to stay on set for another two weeks, so I couldn’t leave. My children were in the United States and I couldn’t join them because I had to finish Joan. And all these articles started coming out…

“It hurts because I completely torture myself with every move I make as a mother – the mom guilt is so real. I kept telling myself, “None of this is true.” You’re a good mom and you’ve never been a party girl.

“It’s unimaginable how many people will just make up shit and post it based on a photo.

“A picture is worth a thousand words, but that’s not my story. I felt like I was watching a movie of my life that I hadn’t written, produced, or starred in. It was shocking. I’m still in shock.

The British star added: “I’m unhappy with the way everything has gone, especially when it comes to my children. They are the victims in all this. But I think we are doing our best.

“I’m confident we can figure it out. Joe is a great father to our children and that’s all I can ask for,” she said, praising Jonas.

Since their split, The Staircase star has gone public on Instagram with Peregrine Pearson after they were seen kissing in Paris and London.

Peregrine is the eldest son and heir of Michael Pearson, the 4th Viscount Cowdray – a former film producer who owns a significant part of the Pearson media empire, estimated to be worth more than £224 million.

Meanwhile, Waffle House singer Jonas was spotted with former beauty queen Stormi Bree, 33, in Aspen over New Year’s Eve.

Speaking about dating again after the split, Turner said: “I’m having fun dating. It is very funny. I mean, it’s strange when you get married so young. It’s like you never really learned how to date. So this is very new to me.
