The 2024 California State Fair will feature legal sale and consumption of weed

SACRAMENTO – For the first time in its history, the California State Fair will offer adult attendees the choice of purchasing weed.

In 2022, the show featured the California Cannabis Expo and an awards competition to celebrate the state’s burgeoning legal marijuana industry. Aside from CBD-infused slushies, no cannabis products were offered for sale at the fair.

However, this will change for the 2024 edition of the California State Fair.

On Tuesday, legal cannabis retailer Embarc and state fair organizers announced that on-site sales and consumption would be offered at the expo.

Participants 21 and older will be able to try winning products from the state fair’s cannabis competition.

“Expanding the competition to include all form factors and offering customers the opportunity to directly engage with and consume the winning brands is transformational for public understanding of the plant,” said James Leitz, executive producer of the competition and the exhibition on cannabis, in a press release.

States across the country have relaxed their laws on recreational marijuana in recent years – with it being legal in 24 states in 2024. Medicinal marijuana is also legal in 13 other states.

The California State Fair will take place July 12-28 at Cal Expo.
