Addressing well-being in veterinary medicine

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – They care for our beloved pets and ensure their well-being. Veterinarians play a crucial role in ensuring the health and happiness of our pets. Unfortunately, what most people don’t know is that disproportionately high suicide rates plague veterinarians in the United States.

According to Not One More Vet, an organization dedicated to wellness in veterinary medicine, 1 in 6 veterinarians consider suicide at some point in their career. This figure is so high that many consider it an epidemic in the veterinary profession.

More in-depth interviews with Ava Van Valen:

This Veterinarian Appreciation Day, Dr. Scott Richardson, President of the Florida Veterinary Medical Association, stopped by the WCTV studio to talk about how we can better understand the stressors veterinarians face and support them.

Veterinarian Appreciation Day takes place on June 18. This is a day dedicated to honoring the incredible work and dedication of veterinary professionals around the world.

This year we treated Dr. Karis Shelton and all the veterinary professionals at North Florida Animal Hospital to a cake to say thank you!
