SCOTT McTominay scored Scotland’s sixth goal of the Euro tournament – but a BBC transmission error caused it to be ruled out as an own goal.

It didn’t take long for Steve Clarke’s men to take the lead in a must-win match against Switzerland this evening.

The Manchester United midfielder completed a good Scottish move by hitting Switzerland on the counter-attack, led by captain and Liverpool star Andrew Robertson.

McTominay arrived at the top of the box and saw his deflected shot fly into the top left corner of the net after just 13 minutes of play.

Schar managed to get his foot on the ball, but to no avail.

Thousands of Tartan Army fans were delighted to take a 1-0 lead against Switzerland and believed it was McTominay who had once again come to the country’s aid.

However, the BBC instead credited the goal as an own goal against Fabian Schar. Even commentators Liam McLeod and Neil McCann were confused that the goal had not been awarded to McTominay.

Presenter Gabby Logan also reiterated that the first game was a Schar own goal.

But UEFA officially ruled it a McTominay goal.

Scotland’s hopes were short-lived in the first half as Switzerland wasted no time in equalizing thanks to a magnificent strike from Xherdan Shaqiri.
