Cameron Brink delivers message on social media after injury announcement

The Los Angeles Sparks received devastating news Wednesday when it was announced that rookie forward Cam Brink suffered a torn left ACL Tuesday night against the Connecticut Sun.

This wasn’t the news Sparks and Brink were looking for, especially with the season she was having. The Sparks have not gotten an official timetable on Brink’s recovery or status for the remainder of the season.

However, we can infer that Brink will likely miss the remainder of the 2024 season as well as the Summer Olympics next month. The rookie was selected to compete on the U.S. women’s 3×3 team in Paris.

Nonetheless, Brink took the time to post a powerful message on social media on Wednesday after receiving the terrible news.

“You never think it will happen to you. And despite all the hard work, it does happen sometimes. It’s hard to understand but I know it will only make me stronger. I won’t derail and I will continue to love this life – I’m not defined by basketball, but it’s something I love deeply and I will work every day to get back to it. It’s not a goodbye to basketball, it’s just. see you later. I am always very grateful for your thoughts and prayers.

Cameron Brink

Brink posted 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.3 blocks in 22 minutes per game this season. She was a contender for Rookie of the Year to start the year, but the Sparks will now look to Rickea Jackson to continue their progress.

Without Brink in the frontcourt for the Sparks, Los Angeles will rely on Li Yueru, who had 11 points, three assists and two rebounds in 26 minutes against Connecticut. Yueru is averaging 5.1 points and 3.8 rebounds per game this season.

Brink has a long road ahead of her, but with the support she receives from her teammates and other rookies (Aaliyah Edwards, Angel Reese), she will be back and better than ever next season.
