Opposition, student groups demand ban on cancellation of NTA, NEET after scrapping of UGC NET exam

Indian National Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge asked in a post on X: “When will the NEET exam be cancelled?

The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) has called for action against the National Testing Agency (NTA).

NSUI President Varun Choudhary urged Union Education Minister Dharmednra Pradhan to take action, including banning the NTA and taking legal action against its officials.

This comes against the backdrop of the sudden cancellation of the June 2024 session examination of the University Grants Commission – National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET), which was announced by the Ministry of Education of Indian government late on the night of June 20.

This adds to growing resentment against the NTA, which was already facing severe criticism for the mismanagement of another exam, the National Eligibility and Entrance Test – Undergraduate (NEET-UG).

Concerning this medical examination, trials are underway and the next hearing will take place on July 8. In addition, allegations of paper leakage, malpractice, identity theft and other accusations are being leveled against the national monitoring body.

Nationwide protests were also launched by aspirants, students and state incumbents against irregularities in NEET UG. The cancellation of the UGC-NET based on “inputs from the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs, prima facie indicating that the integrity of the examination may have been compromised ”, sparked a new quarrel.
