Just Stop Oil targets ‘Taylor Swift’ in latest stunt

Protest group Just Stop Oil has put Taylor Swift in its crosshairs after its latest operation targeted the airfield where they say the singer’s private jet was parked.

The climate activist group has made headlines in recent years with its disruptive protests against the use of fossil fuels. Yesterday, two demonstrators were arrested after launching orange powder paint on part of Stonehenge.

And it appears their stunts show no signs of stopping, after two Just Stop Oil campaigners burst into a VIP airfield at Stansted Airport in the early hours of Thursday (June 20) and covered up private jets of orange spray paint.

In a post on their X/Twitter page, the group explained that around 5 a.m., two activists named Jennifer and Cole cut the fence and broke into the private airfield “where (Taylor’s) jet is parked Swift)”, while the singer is in the country for her UK leg of Era’s tour.

Footage shows the activists using power tools to cut a fence and using what appear to be fire extinguishers filled with orange paint to cover parked private jets.

A statement released by Stansted Airport confirmed: “Shortly after 5am, Essex Police arrested two protesters who had entered the private aviation area of the airfield, away from the runway and the main passenger terminal. »

However, subsequently reports suggest the singer’s plane was not parked at the private airfield at the time of the stunt.

Just Stop Oil said it was “demanding an emergency treaty to end fossil fuels by 2030” and it appears this protest was much more well received than the Stonehenge monument target the day before.

“Fair play, I criticized them yesterday, so I have to point out that this is a completely justifiable protest goal,” one person argued.

Another wrote: “That’s pretty much it! »

Someone else pointed out: “A much more valid target, but damn, Stansted now have some big questions to answer about security.” »
