Define living spaces with a room divider made from IKEA outdoor patio tiles

There are many ways to create your own room divider, and using the ALTAPPEN decking from IKEA is definitely one of them. First, measure the size you want for your screen and purchase the right quantity of tiles, keeping in mind that each measures 11¾ inches in width and length. Three packs would cost you about $48 — a significant discount compared to the retailer’s ready-made room dividers, which cost more than $100.

Next, according to Yoduvh Essentials on YouTube, assemble the tiles to fit the dimensions of your space. Attach the book rings to the exposed hooks above what will be the tallest ALTAPPEN tiles. Next, drill pilot holes and screw the hooks into your PVC or wood finishing panel which will be attached to the ceiling. The hooks should match where each book ring will hang. To ensure your DIY screen is easy to remove later, use Command strips to adhere the finishing panel to the ceiling. Finally, hang the rings on the hooks.

When creating your divider, you can put all the tiles together or leave them hanging in separate panels. Alternatively, you can superglue foam board panels covered with mirror paper between your ALTAPPEN panels. You can also use a strip at the bottom to give your partition a neat finish, then secure it to the floor and/or wall with more Command strips.
