More and more Android phones are receiving Gemini in messages

Google is finally expanding the number of Android phones that can access Gemini through Google Messages. Previously, the feature was only available on select Pixel devices, as well as Samsung Galaxy devices, including foldables and the Galaxy S22 and beyond.

Google has now updated its help pages to indicate that the feature is finally available on a wider selection of Android phones, although there are still some important requirements you’ll need to meet first.

Most importantly, you will need an Android device with 6 GB or more of RAM. Unfortunately, this excludes some of the cheaper options. However, given that many mid-range devices today have 6-8 GB of RAM, we hope that Gemini should be placed in many hands. Additionally, Google says you must be 18 or older and have RCS messaging enabled.

You’ll also need to be signed in to the latest version of Messages with a personal account that’s not managed by Family Link or a Google Workspace account, and be in one of the 165 countries supported by Gemini.

If you meet these requirements, then you should be able to take advantage of Google-powered AI right in your Android phone’s messaging app.

How to use Gemini in Google Messages

Using Gemini in Messages is a lot like talking to your friends. If this is your first time talking to Gemini in Messages, simply open the Messages app, tap To start Cat, and choose Gemini as the recipient. If you’ve already started a chat, just tap the chat to continue it.

Once the chat is open, you can start sending requests and asking questions to the AI-powered chatbot. Gemini in Messages works very similar to how it works on the web, so don’t be afraid to experiment with its different features.
