Mayor announces more than billion set aside to create new jobs for New Yorkers

More than a billion dollars is being set aside by the city to help create new jobs for New Yorkers.

Mayor Eric Adams announced the investment Thursday, calling it the city’s first-ever “community hiring effort.” The money is based on contracts that Adams said will create new job opportunities for those who need them most.

“It uses the city’s purchasing power to create jobs. It’s a smart, smart way to recycle our taxpayer dollars,” Adams said. “This generates new economic opportunities across all five boroughs, including our NYCHA neighbors.”

These contracts will cover positions including, but not limited to, security guards, field inspectors and other security-related jobs.

The city says new hires will receive free training for these roles.
