Previously, we shared how a Chinese TikToker was perplexed by the rather arbitrary prices of mixed rice restaurants in our country, which amused many Malaysians.

Eating with your family, including a child under 2 years old, at the Kampung Baru restaurant, the man also complained about the price he considered high for the dishes they ate there.

He shared,

“This is the first time I got a RM5 “fine” in a restaurant for having a messy table (my child is under 2 years old).

“Jumped up Kailan with salted fish, omelette, siakap 3 rasa (3 flavor bar), no Tom Yum, for RM55. Super expensive. And “good” too.

Aaa

Disappointed, the man asked if a restaurant was allowed to charge extra for customers who leave a table untidy and if he could report the matter to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN).

In the comments, many Malaysians were perplexed by the arbitrary RM5 fee for having messy tables, although many thought the RM55 price was reasonable.

One commenter said this was the first time he’d heard of restaurants “fining” customers for having messy tables. They added that the father could report to KPDN if the restaurant did not have a notice of the charge visible at the scene.

Meanwhile, another commenter joked that the restaurant owner must have been a prefect when they were at school, hence the arbitrary charging for messy tables.

On top of that, one commenter placed the blame on the family themselves for not having the decency to clear the table after eating and such a “fine” is justifiable since the restaurant staff had to clean the table by the following.
