Pakistan cricket is set to undergo “major surgery” in the coming months, as Pakistan Cricket Board chief Mohsin Naqvi has said. The successive poor results in the 2023 ODI World Cup and 2024 T20 World Cup have put a big question mark on Babar Azam-led Pakistan. This time around, the reaction to the exit is stronger as Pakistan started the tournament with an unexpected defeat against debutants USA. Then they lost to India. Both defeats came at the hands of arch-enemy Pakistan, who were eliminated despite winning their last two encounters.

Question marks have been raised over Pakistan’s intentions with a viral quote from coach Gary Kirsten claiming there “is no unity” in the Pakistan team.

Former Pakistan cricket team captain Mohammad Hafeez today raised question marks over the culture inside the team’s dressing room. He recounted an incident involving several Pakistani players in the dressing room.

“If a player is sleeping in a dressing room and we are playing Test cricket. If 4-5 players are sleeping in the dressing room, should I allow that as a selector?” Hafeez said during an online interaction with Adam Gilchrist and Michael Vaughan.

Then Vaughan asked, “Were they tired?”

Hafeez replied, “I really don’t know. I went to the dressing room and found that 4-5 players were sleeping in the dressing room while they were playing Test cricket. I thought, ‘How come “Can you do that?” do something like that, you can’t be on this team. I want you to stay focused during the game and then outside of the game, whatever you do, it’s your own life, I never involve myself in it professional timings of the game, I want you to concentrate on the game. If you are a fast bowler, you can rest, take a good ice bath, but you have to concentrate. on the game of cricket, like how the other team does it too. You can’t switch off during the match, but unfortunately the media didn’t like it.
