Bombay, June 21: YouTube has for months been taking strict action against users who violate its policies by using ad blockers and other tools to watch content on the platform. The Google-owned platform will now cancel the YouTube Premium subscriptions of those who use VPNs (Virtual Private Networks). YouTube has now decided to close accounts that took its premium subscription in a country different from their original location.

YouTube cracked down on premium subscriptions when the registration country location and users’ actual location did not match, according to a report. report by The edge. The report mentions that people who used a VPN to purchase a subscription on the video platform got their cancellation automatically. Users have used this trick to get the YouTube Premium subscription at a lower price than in their country. In the United States, the YouTube Premium subscription price is $13.99 per month, allowing users to watch ad-free video content, access YouTube Music, and allow offline downloads. On the other hand, users can enjoy a premium YouTube subscription for just 869 ARS (around $1.05 per month) in Argentina. However, YouTube is now addressing these practices by canceling subscriptions.

The report highlighted a statement from Paul Pennington, a YouTube spokesperson, who said the company had “systems in place” to track the location of its users. He added that the company would ask users to update their billing information in their current country of residence if the registration location did not match the location from which they accessed the platform. Recently, the platform sent a message to users: “Ad blockers are not allowed on YouTube”.
