Flight cancellation: United Airlines flight cancellation leaves passengers stranded in Delhi | Delhi News

New Delhi: A plane full of US-bound passengers got stranded in Delhi after United Airlines canceled its Delhi-Newark flight on Thursday evening. The plane was scheduled to take off early Saturday morning, but that flight was also canceled. With no Lufthansa Delhi-Frankfurt service on Friday and all westbound Air India flights fully sold out, United was unable to accommodate passengers from the canceled UA3010 on these partner airlines for the current high summer season. “At the last minute, on Thursday evening, we were told that the flight to Newark was canceled. It was postponed early Saturday, but it was ultimately canceled. United should have accommodated us on the Friday flight,” one passenger said. “Not doing so completely disrupted our travel plans. Our trip was short and now, with a two day delay, we’re not sure we want to continue the trip to the US this time. Sources said United had difficulty booking affected passengers on other airlines due to the summer rush. An Air India official said all their flights were crowded. Air India is the largest operator of flights between India and North America and its flights are fully booked. The airline, which flies over Russia, has a huge opportunity to tap into this market and will increase its flights as it has more planes. “The United plane which was scheduled to operate on Thursday evening is now likely to depart by ferry (without passengers) from Delhi due to crew duty time issues,” informed sources said. Demand for travel between India and the West, particularly North America, far exceeds supply. With Western airlines not flying over Russia, US airlines have severely restricted flights to and from India. United and American Airlines offer very few flights. Delta is yet to restart its operations in India after the Covid pandemic.
