The Mystics prepare to face the Dallas Wings at home on Saturday

SOUTHEAST DC (DC News Now) – The tides are turning in Washington as the Mystics make it two wins in three games after starting the season 0-12. The team was buoyed by guard Ariel Atkins who scored 27 and 29 points in back-to-back games, according to teammate Karlie Samuelson, which was huge for the team.

“She makes tough shots and she’s tough to defend and she defends well too. So we really need it. Samuelson said. “I mean, she plays like an all star to me.” she says.

Atkins hasn’t been the only Mystic to play well, rookie Aaliyah Edwards has been one of the most consistent rookies in the WNBA. The young forward scored 16 points in her last outing and has continued to improve throughout the season.

“She’s like the first one in the gym and the last one to leave every optional day.” Samuelson said of her young teammate. “I know she’s a rookie, but she had to play vet minutes and big minutes. We really needed it too. she says.

The Mystics will have a challenge on Saturday, tasked with having to contain Arike Ogunbowale. Dallas’ star guard is averaging 25.4 points per game heading into Saturday. She is currently listed as a game decision, but the Mystics are ready for her.

“It’s not one person’s job to stop it or slow it down. We must defend it with all five of us. declared head coach Éric Thibault. “And if she realizes some of the ones we live with, then don’t panic, we won’t lose our minds over it.” He continued

Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday at the Southeast DC Entertainment and Sports Arena.
