The reason? He wanted to earn money quickly to make his wife’s dream come true: a brand new apartment for the family.

Police said the accused, Ashok Kumar, 32, a B.Com graduate, had scouted three high-profile clinics in Janakpuri before choosing his target. He took note of the haste in establishing his target, Dr. Anil. Wearing a mask, he then left an extortion letter in the name of a jailed Haryana gangster, Manoj Baba, on the doctor’s assistant’s desk, police said. However, police later arrested Kumar and his handwritten extortion letter was also found.

Police said the matter came to light after Dr Anil lodged a complaint with the police that he received a letter from a ‘masked man’ demanding extortion money and threatening to kill him if he did not didn’t do it; the letter was attributed to imprisoned gangster Manoj Baba.

An FIR was registered against the accused at Janakpuri police station and later transferred to the South West Region Special Cell, police said.

According to the police, an informant said on June 15 that the movement of the accused was allegedly noticed in Jai Vihar area of ​​Najafgarh. Following this, a trap was laid near Block G of Chath Park in Jai Vihar. After noticing the motorcycle allegedly used by the accused – a TVS Star City+ – the police apprehended Kumar. The clothes he wore while delivering the letter were also found in his possession, police added.

Kumar revealed during his interrogation that as a private sector employee, he had no fixed source of income and as his wife insisted on buying an apartment, he committed the crime with the aim of earning a quick buck. money.

“On June 3, Kumar arrived at Dr Anil’s clinic, parked his motorbike at a distance and entered the clinic wearing a mask. He kept the extortion letter in a yellow envelope – in the name of jailed gangster Baba – on the doctor’s assistant’s desk and left immediately,” said DCP (special cell) Manoj C, adding that the letter was in his hand.
