Ald. Jason Ervin (28), also a former police officer whose neighborhood includes the area where the shooting occurred, told ABC Chicago that he had known Neuman for decades and was well known in the neighborhood.

Neuman worked for Chicago police starting in 1982 and retired in 2010, working in arson and explosives investigations, ABC Chicago reported. He was one of the police department’s first black bomb technicians, Ervin told the station.

He then joined the TSA as a bomb assessment expert at O’Hare and Midway airports, an agency spokesperson told the station.
