Serena Williams shares vulnerable message about ‘post-baby belly’

World tennis star Serena Williams never shies away from vulnerability with her fans.

Williams recently shared a video of herself receiving radiofrequency treatment on her stomach at a Paris spa. In the caption, she talks about her struggles with taking time for herself and says that only recently has she been able to start doing things for herself, even though she feels guilty about leaving her children behind her.

She also explained that she was self-conscious about her postpartum belly.

In the reel, Williams, dressed in a white crochet top and matching skirt, lies on an exam table while a technician applies clear gel to her stomach and uses an ultrasound-like wand.

She received a radiofrequency body treatment, which uses electromagnetic waves to encourage the production of collagen and elastin to create firmer skin.

“During my last trip to Paris, one of my friends treated me to a spa day. She knows that after 2 babies I was self-conscious about my belly,” she said in her Instagram post.

Continuing, she wrote: “I just had to post this video she took. The results were astonishing. I can see progress, with my skin returning to normal and my confidence returning. Look, my body will never be the same, but neither will I because I have 2 incredible lights in my life. @Olympiaohanian and @adiraohanian.

Williams added, “I will always love my birth scars, but I just wanted to thank my friends Mia and Nat for letting me know that it’s okay to take time for myself away from work and kids.”

“I love how authentic and approachable you are.”

Fans praised the insightful post in the comments section.

“Hearing the greatest athlete of all time talk about feelings of insecurity with her body/skin…this DEF lets me know that it’s okay to be open and vulnerable about mine. Thanks for sharing, Serena!

“I love how authentic and relatable you are, your message has validated millions of women who struggle with body insecurity postpartum. Thank you🙏🏽,” added another.

Others thought she was having a pregnancy ultrasound in the video, like one who wrote: “Girl we thought you were having a baby!! 🤰🏾 but yes, taking care of yourself is great!!”
