Atlanta Falcons front office ranks top 15 in PFF rankings

During the three years of Arthur Smith’s regime, the Atlanta Falcons were 22nd in EPA/dropback, 25th in passer rating, and 20th in adjusted net yards per attempt (ANY/A). Part of the reason for this is the quarterback fiasco that began with the departure of Matt Ryan at the end of the 2021 season. Part of it is also because the assortment of pass catchers doesn’t wasn’t the best. Outside of Kyle Pitts and Drake London, the Falcons’ best options have been a hodgepodge of guys who left the Falcons, like Olamide Zaccheaus, Russell Gage and Jonnu Smith.

This year, the passing game appears to be on track with the acquisition of quarterback Kirk Cousins and, according to PFF, a room of the NFL’s top 15 wide receivers. PFF’s Trevor Sikkema ranked all 32 NFL wide receivers and the Falcons ranked 13th.

We believe in the Falcons’ potential with Kirk Cousins now at quarterback.

Wide receiver Drake London has had back-to-back seasons where he earned over 78.0 receiving grades, and tight end Kyle Pitts hasn’t played as poorly as the stories might indicate, earning receiving grades above 72.0 in the three seasons with poor quarterback play.

Atlanta added Darnell Mooney and Rondale Moore to improve the team’s speed, and the offense can also rely on Bijan Robinson’s receiving ability out of the backfield. The best is yet to come for this group.

Outside of wide receiver, the Falcons have a blue-chip group of pass catchers with Pitts and running back Bijan Robinson. However, the addition of Darnell Mooney and Rondale Moore gives the offense an explosive secondary and tertiary threat component that Atlanta hasn’t seen since Calvin Ridley and Mohamed Sanu were mainstays in the late 2010s.
