This notice recalls the upcoming closure of the Orange Line. previously announced on May 20.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts and the City of Boston are offering Bluebikes Unlock Credits to those affected by the Orange Line closure! Residents can access free unlocks for pedals or e-bikes From Saturday June 22 to Sunday June 30. Individuals can access the five free unlocks using the code MBTAORANGEJUNE via the Bluebikes app; these credits can be used in the system’s 13 municipalities: Arlington, Boston, Brookline, Cambridge, Chelsea, Everett, Malden, Medford, Newton, Revere, Salem, Somerville and Watertown.

BOSTON – Following up on its previous announcement on May 20, the MBTA today reminds riders that Orange Line service will be suspended daily between North Station and Oak Grove during the weekend of June 22-23 and between North Station and Wellington from June 24 to June 30.

During the weekend of June 22-23, free and accessible shuttles will make all stops between North Station and Oak Grove. Riders are encouraged to consider the Haverhill Commuter Rail Line for free service between Oak Grove, Malden Center and North Station. Regular fares must be purchased beyond Oak Grove.

During the suspension of service from June 24 to 30, free and accessible shuttles will make all stops between Wellington and Gare du Nord. There will be free fares at Wellington and Gare du Nord with fare gates open. Riders are encouraged to consider the Haverhill Commuter Rail Line for free service between Oak Grove, Malden Center and North Station. Regular fares must be purchased beyond Oak Grove.

This service change is in place to support critical work on MassDOT’s Maffa Way/Mystic Avenue Bridge Superstructure Replacement Project, which will replace both deteriorated bridge superstructures and improve bicycle, pedestrian, and transportation facilities in common. With service already suspended in these areas, the MBTA is also taking full advantage of this outage to complete track improvement program work, including track and crossing upgrades that will allow for the removal of speed restrictions between Community College and Sullivan Square. Crews will also maximize the outage by completing signage work and improvements to station amenities, including new lighting, painting, tiling, power washing, and more. As a reminder, given the scope of the work to be performed, the MBTA plans to implement additional work on the Orange Line as part of the track improvement program later this year, necessary to eliminate the traffic restrictions. speed north of Wellington.

The important work accomplished during this suspension of Orange Line service means riders will experience a more reliable trip with fewer unplanned service interruptions related to older tracks, older infrastructure, signaling issues or power supply problems. Passengers will also benefit from safer driving thanks to this state of good repair work.
