Austin Butler says his ‘Dune’ counterpart Sting offered to ‘let me carry’ his piece from the original film

Sting shares movie memories with his Dune his counterpart Austin Butler.

When Butler, 32, appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Monday, the Dune: part two The star shared that he met Sting – real name Gordon Matthew Sumner – at the new film’s premiere in New York on Sunday.

“I met him last night, he came to the premiere. It was so surreal. I was blown away. He’s the best,” Butler said of meeting the former singer/bassist de Police, 72, who previously starred in Butler’s. Dune character Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen in filmmaker David Lynch’s 1984 adaptation of Dune.

Sting in Dune in 1984 and Austin Butler in Dune in 2024: part two

Sting played the villainous Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen in 1984. Dune, which starred Kyle MacLachlan as Paul Atreides (Timothée Chalamet’s character) and envisioned the villain as a red-haired man. The new one from Denis Villeneuve Dune The films split Frank Herbert’s iconic 1965 novel into two parts, and as such, Feyd-Rautha did not appear in the 2021 films. Dune: part one. Trailers for the new film feature him as 28-year-old Chalamet’s main antagonist in the sequel.

In the new film, Butler portrays the character as a completely bald and ruthless killer. “The thing about a villainous character – I had never played a character like him, and I didn’t want to judge him, so it was a lot to imagine what his childhood was like,” Butler said of his adaptation to the role. on Tonight’s show.

Butler recently shared with the Los Angeles Times that he and Chalamet only first met when they began rehearsing stunts for the new film in Hungary. “We basically said hello and then we got into a fight, trying to kill each other,” he said.

Austin Butler and Léa Seydoux in Dune: Part Two

While Butler told Fallon on Monday he wasn’t staying for Sunday Dune: part two At its first screening in New York, he saw the film at a recent event in Mexico City and plans to see it once more in IMAX.

“It was surreal; there were 4,500 fans in the audience and they were screaming and I had never acted in a movie with that many people before, it was incredible,” he said of the projection.

Dune: part two is in theaters Friday.
