Newcastle ‘players plus money’ offer ‘not of interest to Wolves’, Man Utd ‘considering’ hijacking defender

Wolverhampton Wanderers have rejected a players-plus-cash offer from Newcastle United for club captain Max Kilman, according to reports.

Kilman has been heavily linked with a move to West Ham in recent weeks and the London club reportedly made an opening bid worth £25 million this week.

Wolves quickly turned down the offer and asked interested clubs to pay up to £45 million for the defender.

They rejected a £30 million bid from Italian giants Napoli last summer and that was during a difficult financial period, so they should stand firm with their current valuation.

Not under pressure to sell their captain, Gary O’Neil’s side have now rejected another offer, this time from Newcastle.

Newcastle and West Ham ‘fail’ with offers for Wolves player

According to Telegraph journalist John Percy, the Magpies “made a cash offer for more players”, including local midfielder Elliott Anderson.

It is unclear how much money Eddie Howe’s side offered after West Ham ‘failed’ with their £25m bid on Friday.

Newcastle ‘will need to improve their offer’ if they are to sign Kilman after ‘making his move in the last 24 hours’.

Howe is reportedly ‘reluctant’ to offload Anderson despite his inclusion in the deal which the Wolves are ‘not interested in’.

The report adds that “Manchester United are also considering” Kilman, but the sale is “complicated” as his former club, Maidenhead, negotiated a 15-20 per cent sell-on clause in the £40,000 transfer in 2018.

It is reiterated that Wolves are not under “pressure to raise funds”, but if O’Neil wants to improve his team he may have to sell.

Kilman, 27, is an option, as is Portuguese striker Pedro Neto, who is believed to be valued at £60million.

The same outlet reported West Ham’s offer for Kilman, claiming the defender “is settled at Molineux” but Hammers boss Julen Lopetegui “likes him very much” and is desperate to bring him in.

The former Wolves boss, now at the London Stadium, is currently “prioritizing” the signing of a new central defender.
