Manchester United could be ‘offered’ intriguing Mason Greenwood swap deal

Juventus would consider offering Federico Chiesa has Manchester United as part of an agreement that would see Mason Greenwood move to Turin.

Greenwood’s future is currently the subject of much speculation, with his time at Old Trafford expected to end permanently this summer.

The 22-year-old, after being told he had no future at Old Trafford last year, moved to Getafe on loan, and he scored 10 times and registered six assists in 36 appearances for the Spanish side last season.

President of Getafe Angel Torres has suggested his side are confident of securing Greenwood’s services for another season, but Man United are still considering selling him as his departure would represent pure profit within the Premier League’s rules regarding profit and sustainability .

Lazio are also heavily linked with the Englishman, who has not represented Man United since January 2022 due to off-field issues.

Man United ‘could be offered Chiesa for Greenwood’

Just over two years ago, following a woman’s accusations, Greenwood was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault, then arrested again on suspicion of sexual assault and making death threats.

The Red Devils academy product also faced charges of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, but the charges against him were officially dropped in February last.

Earlier this year, Man United’s new minority shareholder, Sir Jim Ratcliffe have hinted at a possible return for Greenwood this summer, but the club have now reportedly made the decision to sell him.

According to La Gazzetta du SportJuventus are keen to sign Greenwood but are unwilling to pay Man United’s asking price, which is believed to be around £40m.

The report claims that the Old Lady is instead considering offering Chiesa to Erik Ten Hagside, the Italian international having only 12 months left to fulfill his contract.

Would Chiesa be a good signing for Man United?

Chiesa is currently part of Italy’s Euro 2024 squad, and he came into the tournament having scored 10 goals and registered three assists in 39 appearances for Juventus last season.

The 26-year-old has scored 32 goals and registered 23 assists in 131 appearances for the Old Lady, while he has managed seven goals and eight assists in 49 caps for Italy.

With Man United seemingly determined to offload Greenwood, Chiesa represents an attractive option for the 20-time English champions given his age and quality.

The striker scored twice for his country in their Euro 2020 triumph, and he has plenty of experience at the highest level.

Man United also expected to move Jadon Sancho this summer, while Facundo Pellistri could also leave, so Chiesa could be an incredibly smart signing for Ten Hag’s team.
