Liverpool ‘reject transfer offer’ from goalkeeper amid uncertainty over Caoimhin Kelleher’s future

Liverpool ‘reject transfer offer’ from goalkeeper amid uncertainty over Caoimhin Kelleher’s future

It must be very difficult to be a back-up goalkeeper at Liverpool. You’re not just competing for playing time with a really good player, but with many people’s choice for the best at that position in the world.

Even if you don’t agree with this notion, Brazilian shooter Alisson Becker is at the very least an elite goalkeeper. He suffers from occasional injuries, but other than that he is a guaranteed pick when available.

It would be perfectly understandable if Caoimhín Kelleher chose to leave this summer. He deserves to play regularly in the Premier League. It is not yet clear what is happening with Adrián, whose contract expires next week. Liverpool offered him a new contract, although it was reported that he was looking to return to Spain. The Reds would also like to keep young Polish goalkeeper Fabian Mrozek.

The 20-year-old joined the club from FC Wroclaw in 2020 but is yet to make his senior debut for Liverpool. Mrozek has been on the bench for six matches in 2023/24, including five in the Europa League and also the 3-1 win over Burnley in February.

He made one pre-season appearance in a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace two years ago and hopes to be involved again this summer. With Alisson in the Copa America, new head coach Arne Slot will likely need the young Pole in his first weeks with the Reds.

Mrozek’s appearances at youth team level have drawn praise. He has kept five clean sheets in Premier League 2 this season, the most of any goalkeeper (according to Transfermarkt). His efforts also allowed clubs to inquire about his availability for a move.
