F1 News: Alonso’s strong message to Aston Martin after ‘frustrating’ Spanish GP

Following a difficult Spanish Grand Prix where he finished in a disappointing 12th place, Fernando Alonso did not mince his words about the performance problems plaguing Aston Martin. The criticism of the double world champion was both sharp and clear: the team must move from speech to performance.

The Spanish driver explained to the media, quoted by Autosport:

“I’m a little disappointed because we didn’t score any points. We deserve not to score points because we didn’t have the pace all weekend.

“During the race it was extremely difficult. When you slide so much in the corners you also kill the tires. So you have two problems. You don’t have the pace, and on top of that you have a lot of degradation. So everything is in place. Overall, it’s been a very long run for us.

Alonso highlighted technical deficiencies such as excessive tire degradation and poor handling of the car in corners, which he linked to a significant lack of downforce in their AMR24 car. He continued:

“It’s frustrating, but there’s nothing you can do now, so you immediately start thinking about Austria when you see the checkered flag and what you can do differently.

“But I think it will also be painful because it has some characteristics of Barcelona, with the long corners.

“It’s going to be another difficult weekend, also at Silverstone, no doubt. We can’t get too frustrated. It’s time to work harder, talk less, do more. That’s what we want to do.”

The Spaniard also criticized the team’s development approach, noting that despite numerous improvements, there was no tangible improvement on track.

“I’m impatient, but we improved the car a lot and we didn’t get results.

“So now it’s also about what we bring to the track, it gives what we expect and we start to improve more and more. So, like I said, we have to work hard, improving with each race, but without talking too much or promising.
