Shocking CCTV shows violent raid at Auckland jewelry store

Shocking CCTV footage has been released showing at least three masked offenders attacking a jewelry store in Papatoetoe, Auckland last night.

Police confirmed one person was seriously injured during the robbery at Pooja Jewelers on Kolmar Rd in Papatoetoe at around 5.45pm.

Footage provided to 1News showed the attackers entering the store with what appeared to be hammers before being confronted by a man who had received a severe blow to the head.

As the thieves rushed to collect the items, another member of staff brandished a large sword and challenged the offenders as they retreated from the store.

Inspector Keki Wilson said police were speaking to “a number of witnesses” to piece together exactly what happened and inquiries were ongoing to locate the offenders and their vehicles.

The man hit with the hammer was seriously injured and taken to hospital.

Police have urged anyone with information about the incident to contact them via 105 or anonymously via Crime Stoppers.

Store owner in “stable” condition

Sunny Kaushal, president of the Dairy and Business Owners Group, told 1News he knew the family who ran the store well and said the incident was “scary” for them all.

Kaushal said the owner of Pooja Jewelers had a fractured skull and would need surgery.

He was taken to hospital in a serious condition last night after being repeatedly hit on the head with a hammer by one of the attackers.

He was now stable, Kaushal said.
