More changes are coming to ITV’s soap schedule as the UEFA European Football Championship continues next week.

Viewers were recently left frustrated when the broadcaster sacrificed Emmerdale and Coronation Street to make room for the tournament and, unfortunately for them, another round of cancellations is expected.

While EastEnders has migrated to BBC Two, broadcast at its usual 7.30pm slot, Emmerdale will air three times next week at its usual time and viewers will thankfully not be deprived of Thursday’s weekly one-hour slot.

However, the Yorkshire-based drama will be completely dropped on Tuesday and Wednesday (June 25 and 26). Coronation Street fans, on the other hand, will find their patience tested as the show only airs twice next week.

Wednesday June 26 will be a soap-free day for fans who will miss one of their trips to Weatherfield. Corrie will however be broadcast as normal, at 8pm on Monday and Friday (June 28). A multitude of soap fans took to social media sites like Reddit, sharing their frustrations with the schedule changes. “So that’s 2 episodes they owe us so far (first week of Euros and now this one coming up),” one wrote in reference to Corrie’s reduced broadcasts.

They added: “Since they made us waste 30 minutes in the week of the super soap and 2 episodes so far in euros… that’s 2 and a half hours, so effectively almost a whole week’s worth of episodes. This n It’s not fair.” The television landscape has been significantly changed by Euro 2024 as other programs such as Loose Women and the BBC’s The Repair Shop have also been canceled in recent days. The final of the football tournament will take place on July 14, 2024 at the Olympiastadion in Berlin.

Soap bosses have plenty of drama planned for next week as Belle Dingle’s story of coercive control takes another breathtaking turn with Tom King set to face huge peril after discovering the truth about the his wife’s abortion. Belle recently ended her pregnancy as her other half tormented her, both psychologically and physically, for months and viewers wondered who could bring her down repeatedly.

In Weatherfield, Joel Deering faces the risk of being exposed for the alleged murder of Lauren Bolton, among other misdeeds, while Corrie legend Steve MacDonald receives a bombshell from Tracy Barlow that leaves him heartbroken.
