Suspects filmed robbing Bay Ridge jewelry store

The owner of a Bay Ridge jewelry store is calling on the public to help identify the perpetrators of a brazen burglary at his store on June 15.

Police are investigating persons of interest who entered the store shortly after 5 p.m.

Store owner Fawzi Ayoub told News12 the group asked to see the merchandise behind the counter before allegedly stealing a roll of bracelets worth more than $50,000. The entire interaction took place on video as the man can be seen holding the scroll behind his back before handing it to a younger man who then places it in his shirt.

“The husband came from behind and gave me a bag with $27,000 in it – and when I started counting, they took the gold,” Ayoub said.

He told News 12 it will take at least a year for businesses to make up for that loss and hopes police can return the merchandise.

Community members say the store is an institution and it is unacceptable that someone took advantage of Ayoub’s generosity.

“He works very hard, and it’s jewelry, costing about $55,000. And he worked so hard for that money, and we really talked about it so they would come and steal his jewelry and then leave,” said Ayoub’s friend and customer Noha Elmolla.
