James Corden and Adele both offered to help victims of the Grenfell tragedy in 2017.

Both James Corden and Adele reached out following the Grenfell Tower fire in 2017 to offer help, an MP has said.

Shadow Foreign Secretary David Lammy said he had been contacted separately by celebrities concerned about the plight of victims of the tragedy.

This comes after the couple reunited in Los Angeles for the latest Carpool Karaoke session on Corden’s final episode of The Late Late Show on Thursday.

The longtime friends launched successful careers in the United States, despite both being from the Greater London area.

Mr Lammy told the BBC’s Newscast podcast that Tottenham-based singer Adele had been “really concerned” about the tragedy and that Corden had offered to buy Christmas presents for children in the affected community.

Speaking on the podcast, during which he and host Adam Fleming attempted to recreate a carpool karaoke session, Mr Lammy hailed Adele as a “proud Tottenham hero”.

“She supports Spurs and grew up in Tottenham, and she’s quite wonderful,” he said.

When asked if he knew the singer personally, he replied: “I wish I could say I know her. I really wish that.

“But, somewhat strangely, after the terrible Grenfell Tower fire, two celebrities got in touch with me.

“One was Adele, who I think was living in Notting Hill at the time, and (she) was really keen to do what she could, and the other was James Corden.

“I don’t know how he got my number, but he sent me a WhatsApp and thank God he wanted to send Christmas presents to the kids.

“So they were both kind of in my life at that time.”

Corden wrapped up his final episode of The Late Late Show on Thursday after more than eight years.

The hour-long primetime show and premiere featured a slew of celebrity guests, including Adele, Tom Cruise, Harry Styles and Will Ferrell.
