The King of Pop Michael Jackson was set to meet Prince William and Prince Harry in 2002, but King Charles had to intervene to stop the meeting, according to Michael’s former bodyguard.

Matt Fiddes said Michael had developed a close relationship with Princess Diana before her death and described her as “the perfect wife”.

He told podcaster James English: “He talked a lot about Diana – he said she was his ideal woman. They would spend hours on the phone… she rang all the time and he called her all the time.”

When the princes were supposed to meet singer Billy Jean, their father stopped him because the pop star had a bad press at the time.

“Prince Harry and Prince William wanted to meet Michael,” Fiddes said. “Obviously they knew their mother was friends with Michael Jackson, she went to Wembley concerts around the time of ‘Bad’ and so on.”

“We arranged it for Michael to meet them, but King Charles…we were told he put a stop to that,” he explained.

He then revealed: “We received a very official letter saying that Prince William and Prince Harry will not meet Michael Jackson. It was difficult because we had to break the news to him and that’s kind of why he came to London.”

Fiddes also alleged that Michael had traveled to London to see the princes and was promised an honorary knighthood by “certain people in the government and close to the royal family”, and he believed that the meeting with the princes would guarantee the title of knighthood.
