1974: Sheriff Von Wald announces he will run for office again – Post Bulletin

1999 – 25 years ago

  • Hibbing native and Minnesota Gopher basketball star Kevin McHale was elected to the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts (McHale’s high school coach, Gary Addington, was inducted into the Hall of Fame the fame of the Rochester Quarterbacks Club in 2013).

1974 – 50 years ago

  • Olmsted County Sheriff Charles Von Wald has announced he will run for office again. Von Wald will seek a second four-year term.
  • Storm damage closed Whitewater State Park and canceled Fourth of July camping and picnics.

1949 – 75 years ago

  • Spring Valley and Preston of the Fillmore County Baseball League battled to a 4-4 tie in 17 innings. It was the longest game on record in the state this season.
  • The Lyle Gun and the Lyle Conservation Club will sponsor a trap shooting competition at Pinehurst School,
  • Largest crowd ever attended LeRoy’s Old Settlers celebration.

1924 – 100 years ago

  • After a day of festivities in Stewartville attended by thousands of farmers and citizens, new street lights were lit and Stewartville’s main street was illuminated with brilliant light from newly installed and closely spaced street lights.
  • The Pleasant Grove Community Picnic will be held in the grove across from the TB Brown Farm. In the morning there will be patriotic programs and speeches.
