Unfair bias against Tank Davis in potential Lomachenko fight

Unfair bias against Tank Davis in potential Lomachenko fight

The boxing world is eagerly awaiting the possible unification clash between superstar WBA lightweight champion Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis and IBF champion Vasily Lomachenko later this year. Unfortunately, there is a bias against Tank Davis, with fans relating to the age difference between him and 36-year-old Lomachenko.

I agree that the fans might have a stake in the work and stubbornly don’t want to give Tank the love he deserves if he comes out victorious against Lomachenko. But fans need to put aside their prejudices and petty dislikes and respect Tank if and when he beats Lomachenko without dismissing the victory because of Loma’s age.

The fans have to be fair, even if it hurts because of their blind dislike for the talented Baltimore native.

Preventive discredit is unfair

Fans are already discounting a potential Tank win over Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KO) before it even happens. Fans are looking at the age of former three-division world champion Lomachenko, who is approaching 37, suggesting a win by Davis (30-0, 28 KO) won’t mean much as Loma is almost a fossil.

Fans preemptively discredited Tank, overturning his victory over Lomachenko before he even accomplished it. This is completely false. Tank should get 100% credit if he wins, because beating the two-time Olympic gold medalist would mean a lot.

Despite his advanced age, Lomachenko is not a hardcore fighter and is still in his prime. He showed it in his last two fights against George Kambosos Jr. and Devin Haney, defeating the former and earning a victory against the latter.

Lomachenko is still skilled and capable of outboxing Tank Davis if he doesn’t get caught by him at some point in the fight. Fans discrediting a possible win doesn’t help either Tank or Lomachenko.

Tank is a fantastic fighter with exceptional abilities, as he has shown over the years, winning titles in three weight classes and becoming a PPV star in just 11 years. It’s unfair that Tank isn’t getting all the praise from fans or downplaying his possible victory over Lomachenko for whatever reason.
