The Florida Panthers celebrate their Stanley Cup victory with their fans at the Elbo Room

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida – It didn’t take long for the Florida Panthers to continue their championship celebration following the team’s 2-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers in Game 7 on Monday night.

Sky 10 flew over the scene at Elbo Room, located at 241 S. Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd., as Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk and center Sam Bennett were seen partying with Panthers fans who filled the upper and lower decks of the bar Tuesday morning.

Tkachuk also managed to win the Lord Stanley Cup and gave fans the chance to lift the prestigious 132-year-old trophy.

He and Bennett also had fun with a fan who asked them to douse him with beer poured directly from the Stanley Cup.

“I drank it,” Panthers fan Ian Schwartz said. “I never thought in my life I’d see this one day.”

He spoke with Local 10 News’ Roy Ramos to reflect on the moment and shared what the last 24 hours have been like.

“It was a great evening which continues today. It was a great day. The fans are out and it’s been great to interact with them,” Tkachuk said. “Everyone is attracted to the Cup. It’s really awesome. »

“What role did the fans play in all of this and how important were they in this championship? » Local 10 News reporter Roy Ramos asked Tkachuk.

“They are very crucial, especially in Game 7 for us. A big game, obviously the biggest, one of the biggest in NHL history over the last 20 years. They were huge for us, they gave us so much momentum and were one of the main reasons we were able to win,” Tkachuk said.

The crowd at Elbo Room grew so large that police closed part of A1A and Las Olas Boulevard.

Although Tuesday’s championship celebration began at Elbo Hall, it certainly didn’t stop there.

A Local 10 News crew was at the scene where Tkachuk took the Stanley Cup into the Atlantic Ocean and threw it into the water.

Local 10 News reporter Roy Ramos also spoke with a Panthers fan named Katie, who said she attended Monday night’s game and described the energy at Amerant Bank Arena .

“I decided 20 minutes before the game that I needed to be there,” she said. “So I raced to Sunrise and it was probably the most electric atmosphere I’ve ever experienced in my life. I didn’t know we could accommodate so many people in the stadium, but it was unreal! »

“There was no way they were going to lose four games in a row,” Katie added. “Maybe that’s what they needed since they’re the Heart Cats.”

Matthew Tkachuk and his brother Brady Tkachuk grew up playing mini-stick hockey in their basement as the sons of NHL player Keith Tkachuk with one dream in mind: winning the Stanley Cup.

He accomplished the feat after the Florida Panthers did it Monday night. The on-ice celebration has become a family affair for the Tkachuks, who have combined to play more than 2,300 regular-season and playoff games in the league.

Panthers general manager Bill Zito pulled off a blockbuster trade for the fiery Tkachuk, returning 115-point scorer Jonathan Huberdeau and top defenseman MacKenzie Weegar. It was a decision that paid off and helped South Florida win its eighth championship.

South Florida now joins Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, North Texas, Philadelphia, Washington and St. Louis as metropolitan areas with a championship in each of the four North American professional sports leagues.

The Panthers will now be able to celebrate their first championship and organize their first parade with all their fans!
