‘Forrest Gump’ Creators Reunite for One-Room, One-Shot Movie

‘Forrest Gump’ Creators Reunite for One-Room, One-Shot Movie

30 years after their creation Forrest Gump In a massive blockbuster and Best Picture winner, the film’s director, screenwriter and stars come together for a film that rightfully spans decades, if not centuries.

The movie is called Here, directed by Robert Zemeckis, co-written by Zemeckis and Eric Roth, and starring Tom Hanks and Robin Wright. The premise – based on an experimental graphic novel by Richard McGuire – is the story of a single location over an immense expanse of time. The camera never moves but the characters played by Hanks and Wright age over the years.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Zemeckis explained that “the single perspective never changes, but everything around it changes…this has actually never been done before.” Similar scenes can be found in the very first silent films, before the invention of the language of editing. But other than that, yes, it was a risky adventure.

We will therefore note the identical frame locked above and below, but time passes on the faces of Hanks and Wright thanks to digital technology.

It’s kind of an interesting idea, and it’s based on this 2014 graphic novel that showed different snapshots of the same location in different time periods and juxtaposed them together; this land before the house was built, the skeleton of the house as it was built, what will be in this same space 200 years from now, and so on.

Here is the official synopsis of the film:

From the director, screenwriter and reunited stars of Forrest Gump comes an original film about several families and a special place they inhabit. The story spans generations, capturing the human experience in its purest form. Directed by Robert Zemeckis, written by Eric Roth & Zemeckis and told largely in the style of the acclaimed graphic novel by Richard McGuire on which it is based, Tom Hanks and Robin Wright star in a story of love, loss, laughter and life, all that happens here.

Here is scheduled to hit theaters on November 15, 2024.
