Fashion brand’s Rosa Parks-inspired bikini called ‘disrespectful’ and ‘dystopian’

Fashion brand’s Rosa Parks-inspired bikini called ‘disrespectful’ and ‘dystopian’

WHO would have thought they would create a Rosa Parks merch line?

Although the civil rights leader deserves this recognition, it’s not what you would expect.

Fashion fans have scolded a brand for the bikini it named after the activist, calling it “disrespectful.”

Divino Seas, a swimwear company, named a strappy bikini top and matching bottom in its collection after Parks.

The “Rose” set comes in light pink and sea salt. The bikini top, originally $90, is already sold out in both colors.

“Inspired by the woman whose righteous rebellion against apartheid-style segregation in the United States sparked the civil rights movement in the 1960s,” the site says.

“In honor of Rosa Parks, DivinoSeas has included this artesian-inspired homage to high fashion in luxury swimwear.

“ROSA is meticulously crafted with divinity in the details.

“Each element of the constellation of its composition contributes to the seductive and majestic gravity of the decorations.”

The brand also dedicated a two-piece set, available in six shades, in honor of former First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt.

“Named after America’s most famous first lady, the honorable and noble candidate Eleanor Roosevelt, who controversially condemned fascist dictatorships at a politically inopportune moment,” the site says.

“This uniquely textured item from the Legacy Line also goes against the grain of the times while embracing the truth through body positivity via comfort and quality.”

Reviewers on X, formerly known as Twitter, criticized the brand, calling the dedication to Parks inappropriate.

“Every day we get closer to dystopia. WTAF,” said one X user.

“Trying to capitalize on a leading figure in the civil rights movement and profit from exploiting Rosa Parks’ legacy… by using her name to sell a BIKINI… is just horrible,” said one other.

“Companies won’t stop the embalming layers of their greed. Disrespectful!”

“I just asked my friend if he’d seen the Rosa Parks bikini,” one commenter said in disbelief.

“What kind of world are we in?”

“This is exactly what I want from feminism in 2024,” said a third.

Some chose to see the humor in the situation.

“RIP Rosa Parks, you would have loved this stripper bikini top,” one commenter said.

“The most perfect Juneteenth bikini,” another joked.

“Truly beautiful, this is what progress looks like,” said a third, deadpan.

“To be honest, Rosa Parks would have looked so hot in this,” said a fourth.

One commenter raised an issue regarding a completely different aspect of the bikini.

“If someone made something 100% synthetic in my ‘honor,’ I would be SO pissed,” they said.
