State Rep. Claims Sam Page Offered Him Job to End St. Louis County Council Campaign

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. (First Alert 4) – A Missouri state representative says St. Louis County Executive Dr. Sam Page offered her a job if she stopped running for a position on the County Council. St. Louis County.

Gretchen Bangert filed a complaint with the FBI, the United States Attorney’s Office and the Missouri Attorney General. Bangert, Missouri state representative for the 70th District, said she ran as a Democrat for the St. Louis County Council District 2 seat, currently held by Kelli Dunaway, who is not seeking to be re-elected. Nicole Greer and Laqueshiah Young also launched campaigns for the seat.

Bangert said the county executive has offered her a job to drop out of the race three times since she considered running for the vacant seat. According to Bangert, Page said his preferred candidate for the seat was Greer and that he wanted to prevent a contested Democratic primary election on August 6.

In her complaint, Bangert said she received text messages confirming she met Page in November and December. She also said she had a recording of a phone call she had with Page on May 11 in which “it is absolutely clear that Page was making one last attempt to persuade me to drop out of the Council race before the May 28, 2024 deadline to withdraw without a court order.

First Alert 4 has reached out to Bangert and Page for statements regarding the accusations. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
