3 bodies recovered from water at junction of El Paso and Sunland Park

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — Three bodies were recovered from the water near where El Paso meets Sunland Park, New Mexico, Tuesday evening, June 25, the El Paso Fire Department said via his social media account X.

El Paso Fire and Sunland Park Fire responded to McNutt and Anapra for a body recovery operation. Initially, three bodies were reported, then five by El Paso Fire. This total was reduced to three.

An “exhaustive search” was conducted to find a possible fourth person, but no one else was found.

Earlier, Sunland Park Fire found three bodies in the desert in less than 24 hours, dating back to Monday evening.

El Paso Fire Department spokesman Enrique Duenas said they conducted an extensive search for a possible fourth person. That search included a Border Patrol helicopter.

A total of 12 firefighters and 30 firefighters responded to the scene.

Duenas said the deceased were likely migrants due to the location of the incident, but that has not yet been confirmed.

The premises will be handed over to law enforcement once the search is completed.
