PSA recommends cancellation of Alice Guo’s birth certificate

The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) recommends the cancellation of Alice Guo’s birth certificate to the Office of the Solicitor General.

Marizza Grande, deputy statistician of the PSA, stressed that the PSA did not have the authority to cancel Guo even if it deemed the document “irregular.”

“In this regard, we have already approved the Office of the Solicitor General for the cancellation of the COLB (certificate of live birth) because the PSA naman does not have the power to automatically cancel the irregular process of registration,” Grande said.

The PSA said its Fraud and Management Division, in coordination with the Tarlac Local Civil Registration Office, discovered that a negative certification from the then National Statistics Office (NSO) was the only document submitted for the late registration of the birth of Guo and his sister Shiela.

If Guo’s COLB is canceled, his nationality will become “floating.”

“Technically, the identity of yung kaniyang naka-float because she is a government official and a Filipino citizen paddling yung is in question,” Grande said.

Hontiveros said that canceling Grande’s birth certificate would have implications.

“As you said, government officials are beyond reproach, young people cannot be appointed to this position or cannot be appointed to this position,” she said.
