Manchester United consider selling Old Trafford naming rights

Manchester United are considering the possibility of selling the naming rights to their Old Trafford stadium.

That’s according to a report from Adam Crafton of The Athletic, part of plans for the stadium under co-owner Jim Ratcliffe.

The club is considering selling the rights to a renovated Old Trafford or a newly built stadium in a bid to increase revenue.

It has been home to the club for 114 years and never before have the naming rights been sold, although other Premier League clubs have chosen to do so.

Initial discussions with Bank of America, among other financial institutions, have taken place as they explore financing options for their stadium project.

If United choose to take the route of renovating Old Trafford as it currently stands, one potential option could be to have an associate partner for the stadium rather than selling the naming rights in full.

An example provided is Wembley Stadium which has the full title of Wembley Stadium, connected by EE, for which the network provider pays up to £10 million per year, or closer to home, the ground Manchester cricket club is known by the official title of Emirates. Old Trafford.

However, the club is prepared to sell the full naming rights if it decides to go for a completely new build.
