Nicholas Goedel: Kandiyohi County Health and Human Services is unfair – West Central Tribune

My name is Nicholas Goedel and I currently run an adult foster home for people with disabilities in Lake Lillian. My letter to the editor concerns my concerns about the Kandiyohi County Department of Social and Human Services.

Last year in April 2023 we were told that our license would become a company license and we would have to buy another house to move to because we could not live in a company house. However, the county went back on its word and threatened to revoke our license.

Over the past 6 months Kandiyohi County has used several county licensors and we have a feeling it is because of the county supervisor. who was nothing but rude to us. Our attorney even mentioned to us that the Kandiyohi Department of Health and Human Services is not like other departments in the state.

Our home has been nothing short of amazing when it comes to helping people with disabilities and we even have letters of support from case managers confirming this. However, this county supervisor wants us to go out of business and we feel like we are not among the larger companies operating in this area. These companies tend to get all business licenses even though our services are superior to those companies.

We believe there is something bad going on within the Kandiyohi County Department of Health and Human Services. People should know this because they trust this department to find placement for their loved ones who need help due to their disability.

I know I’m rambling a bit. However, we have emails indicating that the previous county licensor, who said she was going to license us as a business, has already done so. Then she suddenly left the county. We can even show you letters of support for us. We simply feel that this information needs to be released because it is the care and homes of individuals that are affected.
