Apart from Fawad and Sanam, Barzakh also stars other popular Pakistani stars namely Khushhal Khan, Faiza Gillani, Sajid Hassan and Uzma Beg among others. The premise of the series revolves around a lonely resort owner who invites his ex-kids to his third party. However, his last future wife is believed to be long dead. If this family reunion alerts certain demons from the past, it is their father’s marriage to the ghost of his first wife which builds the story further. Barzakh was shot down in the Hunza valley.

Earlier in an interview with indianexpress.com, Barzakh writer Asim Abbasi spoke about the series and said, “Barzakh literally means purgatory. But it has its roots in Persian and Arabic and also means a veil between two different worlds. So Barzakh was also my working title, but a long time ago it was also called The Valley. I wrote this in COVID, and there has also been a lot of research in terms of myths and folklore and understanding the connectivity between Persian and Indian mythology; what Hinduism says and what Zoroastrianism says. At the heart of it all is a dysfunctional family; we explore a father’s relationship with his son and grandson, and we explore a man coming to the end of his life and reflecting on the loves he has won and lost. From this prism of a dysfunctional family, we go further and examine it through the prism of magical realism, through the prism of the supernatural. We never go horror or dark and scary. But it’s mostly about explaining emotional catharsis by understanding how souls work – or at least guessing that.

He also spoke about Fawad Khan and Sanam Saeed coming together after years: “Sanam was someone I had contacted earlier; we have a great friendship and I wish she could also be part of Churails. Sanam has that stoicism, but beauty and empathy in her eyes that her character needed here. So once I finished the writing process and thought about casting, she was my first choice. Fawad, honestly I didn’t think of him at first because I thought it was an ensemble piece and all these characters had the same weight and maybe Fawad is looking for a hero role like might being certain actors. I told him this after he came on board. He said to me, “Haven’t you seen the type of work… Haven’t you seen Kapoor and Sons? Why did I choose it? For the character! »

The teaser of Barzakh left fans very excited, they welcomed this Zaroon-Kashaf reunion while welcoming Fawad on screen.
