A Reddit user travelling by taxi in Bengaluru recently struck up a conversation with the driver and was amazed by what he learned about the driver’s daily earnings.

The driver casually mentioned that he earned around ₹3,000-4,000 per day, which left the Redditor in disbelief.

In the comments, people gave their opinions on the income of taxi drivers in India.

One commenter said: “It’s quite reasonable and credible. I have a close friend’s brother who works as an OLA driver. He usually only focuses on airport or train station transfers. He works at somewhat irregular hours But it comfortably brings in around $80,000 after expenses (fuel, EMI, maintenance and insurance).”

Another said, “In the early days of Ola Uber, taxi drivers earned over a lakh per month. Many of them earned a lot of money, bought farmland in their hometowns, and are now living a good life there. »

However, not everyone sees the earnings as substantial, with one speaker comparing them to entry-level salaries in corporate jobs and pointing out the physical toll of driving a taxi that often goes unnoticed.
