Duke’s Kyle Filipowski experiences dark moment after being snubbed in NBA draft

Kyle Filipowski wasn’t partying Wednesday night with his former Duke teammate Jared McCain, who the 76ers selected 16th overall in the 2024 NBA draft.

The 7-foot forward had a rather somber moment in the halls of the Barclays Center in Brooklyn after being selected in the first round, as shown in a video on social media.

Filipowski and a woman, who appeared to be his fiancée Caitlin Hutchison, shared a hug together while outside the green room.

Filipowski looked disappointed as the two men embraced in the middle of the hallway, which was just outside the draft floor.

The couple announced their engagement in April and shared stunning photos, which showed off Hutchison’s massive emerald-cut diamond ring.

“A lot of teams regret passing on Flip,” Jayson Tatum, who won a title with the Celtics earlier this month, posted on X.

Filipowski, 20, was expected to be a first-round selection after a strong 2023-24 campaign for the Blue Devils.

The All-American forward – a native of Middletown, New York – averaged 16.4 points and 8.3 rebounds in 36 starts for Duke last season.

He developed as a solid defender, averaging 1.5 blocks and 1.1 steals per game.

Bronny James, the 6-foot-2 guard from USC and the eldest son of Lakers star LeBron James, also went unselected on the first night of the draft.

The second round of the 2024 NBA draft will take place Thursday at 4 p.m. ET at ESPN’s Seaport District studios in New York City and will be broadcast on ESPN.
