Real Madrid have offered a reduced price for Frenchman Toni Kroos’ replacement

Toni Kroos has officially retired from international football. He will now play in the round of 16 of EURO 2024 with Germany before retiring from international duty. In his last match with Real Madrid, he left with a great memory, delivering an assist and winning the Champions League final.

From Carlo Ancelotti’s perspective, he is well aware that Toni Kroos cannot be replaced, at least not immediately. After all, he remains one of the best midfielders in the world, even in his final year as a player. That said, that won’t stop Real Madrid from trying, if the right opportunity presents itself.

According to a report from Tuttosport (h/t SPORT), Real Madrid have been handed a golden opportunity to sign Toni Kroos’ replacement from OGC Nice. Apparently, Nice have offered Real Madrid a chance to sign Khephren Thuram for just €15-20 million.

The reduced price is due to Thuram entering the final year of his contract. OGC Nice are very aware of the possibility of losing Thuram for free and therefore want to reduce that risk by offering him at a reduced fee. It is a smart move from Nice’s perspective as they would still benefit from a transfer fee without strengthening a direct rival in Ligue 1.

It remains to be seen whether Real Madrid is interested in this proposal. After all, there are internal options to replace Toni Kroos. Real does not necessarily need to sign an external option during the transfer window. In this regard, experiments such as upgrading the role of Dani Ceballos in the team and even moving Jude Bellingham to a lower position were considered.

But as the old saying goes, some trains only come once. This is a golden opportunity to sign an established player for just 15 million euros, a paltry sum that poses minimal risk for Florentino Perez.

Do you think Real Madrid should sign Khephren Thuram?
