Lizzie Rose Music Room presents Ruthie Foster

initially published: 06/27/2024

(TUCKERTON, NJ) — Lizzie Rose Music Room presents Ruthie Foster on Wednesday, July 24, 2024. Ruthie Foster is a five-time Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter who blends a wide palette of American song forms, from gospel and blues to jazz, folk and soul. Doors are at 7:00 p.m., show is at 7:30 p.m.

Described by Rolling Stone as “pure magic to watch and hear,” her vocal talent was showcased during worship services at her community church. Drawing inspiration from legendary artists like Mavis Staples and Aretha Franklin, Foster has developed a unique sound that cannot be contained within just one genre. This uniqueness echoes a common theme in Ruthie’s life and career: marching to the beat of her own drum.

Ruthie Foster was born in the small rural town of Gause, Texas. Raised in a family of gospel singers, Ruthie first learned to sing during services at her community church. With a chapel bravado trained on the works of powerhouse women such as Mavis Staples and Aretha Franklin, her sound became an inspired blend of blues, folk and gospel.

Looking to forge her own path, Ruthie left her hometown to serve in the Navy. She discovered her love of performing while singing pop and funk tunes as the lead singer of Pride, a group that performed at Navy recruiting drives across the country. Ruthie’s time with Pride opened a window to diverse American cultures from coast to coast, and after her service, she moved to New York to pursue a career as a professional musician.

Tickets are $72.00 in advance, $80.00 at the door. Advance tickets are available for purchase online. The Lizzie Rose Music Room is located at 217 East Main Street in Tuckerton, New Jersey. A free parking is available.
