WhatsApp hit by partial outage interrupting image and media downloads

If you’re having trouble uploading photos or sending voice messages on WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger, you’re not alone. Both services are currently partially down, with an outage interrupting photo and video uploads, as well as voice messages.

On June 27, around 12 p.m. ET / 9 a.m. PT, WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger both experienced a partial outage directly affecting images and other media. The outage, which appears to partially recover around 1 p.m. ET, affects both services, as users reported via Drop Detector and also via social networks.

Regular messages do not appear to be affected.

For those seeing the problem, images, videos, and voice messages fail to download completely or get stuck in an endless loading loop.

Similar partial outages around multimedia have been reported by some over the past couple of weeks, but today’s partial outage appears to be both more widespread and lasting longer.

Meta should fix the issue soon, and we’ve already noticed that some image uploads are being resolved.
