City announces hours for July 4 facilities and services

EVANSTON, IL – The City of Evanston has announced service and facility hours for the Independence Day holiday, Thursday, July 4.

Garbage collection

Normal collections will take place on Wednesday July 3 and Friday July 5. No collection will take place on Thursday July 4. After Wednesday, all collections will be one day late.

Facilities

The Morton Civic Center and all city community centers, recreation facilities and Evanston Public Libraries will be closed on Thursday, July 4. The Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center will be open on July 4 for Independence Day activities from 9 a.m. to noon.

Center 311

The Evanston 311 Center will be open from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday, July 4. Hours will be extended as needed.

Beaches

Evanston beaches, including Greenwood, Lighthouse, Lee Street and South Boulevard, will be open for swimming on Thursday, July 4 from 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Clark Street Beach will be open July 3 from 10:30 a.m. to noon and closed the rest of the day for fireworks setup. Clark Street Beach will also be closed on July 4.

The Evanston Dog Beach will open from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. on July 4.

The Church Street boat launch will be closed to traffic at 2 p.m. on July 4 and will reopen after the fireworks.

Car park

Parking meters and garages in the city centre will be free on Thursday, July 4. In addition, other restricted areas with signs prohibiting parking except on public holidays will be respected.
