ITV Douglas cancelled as viewers slam ‘poorly written’ series as it threatens ‘extinction’

Douglas is Canceled viewers have been left disappointed and unimpressed by ITV’s latest series, with many fans threatening to switch off just minutes after the first episode began.

The series synopsis reads: “TV news anchor Douglas Bellowes faces a career crisis when he’s overheard making a sexist joke at a wedding.

“The situation escalates when his co-host, Madeline Crow, retweets a comment about the incident to her many followers, intensifying the public backlash.

“Douglas struggles to clear his name while managing his own relationships with his wife and daughter. Comedy drama, starring Hugh Bonneville and Karen Gillan.”

While many fans wondered what the series had to offer, they quickly realized that the advertising didn’t do the first episode justice and took to their X account to complain.

“This is a bit far-fetched!” one immediately noted, before another added: “I was looking forward to #DouglasIsCancelled, but not for me until now.”

A third said: “It’s pretty poorly written. And not as funny as it sounds.”

“I’m already bored,” someone else wrote, before a fifth claimed: “Unfortunately #DouglasIsCancelled appeared better in the adverts than in actual viewing.”

Another simply said: “That’s a no from me. Almost off after the first break and off after the second.”

However, not everyone was disappointed with the episode, as one said: “This is the best thing Moffat has written since season 2 of Sherlock.” It’s about time that cancel culture had its head removed. #DouglasIsCancelled. » (sic)

Speaking about his character before the series, Bonneville noted: “Douglas is a perfectly decent, pleasant man who does good work and is appreciated for what he does. He thinks so too.

“Even when, a few years ago, he welcomed a young colleague, Madeline, onto the couch next to him, he felt safe in the knowledge that the warm, avuncular relationship he had with his protégée was no threat to his own position.

“Is it enough? I wouldn’t say that. Certainly confident without reservation. But, just as the dinosaurs didn’t know they were an endangered species, Douglas blithely ignores that the next generation is smarter, more resourceful, and capable of absolute cruelty when things go wrong.

“Or when the wrongs haven’t been righted. That’s his blind spot. His fatal flaw. That’s what’s at the heart of his character. Pride.”

When asked if he based his character on anyone in the TV industry, he explained: “No. I didn’t consciously think, ‘Who does this person look like?’ In fact, Douglas is the cousin of a character like Ian Fletcher, from Twenty Twelve and W1A.

“He is desperately trying to maintain stability, unaware of the extent of the disorder occurring around him, in this case, a disorder entirely of his own creation.”
