Lil Nas X investigates a murder in his crime novel-inspired single “Here We Go”

Lil Nas Beverly Hills Cop: Axel FThe fast-paced song sees the rapper seeking justice: “Tell them boys you better hide/Tell them to lay low/Tell them to play safe ’cause we ain’t playing at all/Tell them boys you better move.”

The single was produced by Ojivolta and written by Little Nas Harold Faltermeyer, Raul Cubina, Mark Williams and Jarrod Morgan. It includes a sample of the original theme song “Axel F” from 1984 The Beverly Hills Police Officer film written and performed by Faltermeyer. The song appears several times in the film, according to a press release, and will play during the end credits.

Lil Nas X also joined Eddie Murphy for a chat about how the song came to be on Instagram. “It’s just exciting to have new music and have this brother as a member,” Murphy noted.

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Fwhich will be released on July 3, stars Murphy as Detective Axel Foley, who is back on the scene in Beverly Hills. Also starring are Taylour Paige, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Judge Reinhold and John Ashton. The official synopsis reads: “After her daughter’s life is threatened, she and Foley team up with a new partner and old friends, Billy Rosewood and John Taggart, to turn up the heat and uncover a conspiracy.”

In the 90s, a fourth installment was announced but never came to fruition and in the mid-2010s, a film was supposed to be shot in Michigan but was postponed due to a half-baked script. If you’re going to force something, you shouldn’t do it. It was always a repeat of the old thing. It was always wrong.
