Meet the crew of the USS Protostar from Star Trek: Prodigy

Like the rest of the crew, Dal R’El (voiced by Brett Gray) escaped from the Tars Lamora work colony after discovering the USS Protostar. His species is unknown, but he is intelligent, stubborn, and more than happy to sit in the captain’s chair!

Dal soon learns that he is an augmented human hybrid, created by a protégé of Dr. Arik Soong. While the Starfleet Tribunal is unwilling to accept the crew directly into Starfleet Academy, especially given Dal’s augmented status, Admiral Janeway argues on their behalf and points out that Dal is in no way “enhanced”, but is in fact a combination of 26 species of the Federation’s member species, an ideal representation of what the Federation stands for. While the Starfleet Tribunal has dropped criminal charges, they are unwilling to fast-track the children into the Academy. Instead, they will serve under Janeway as warrant officers in training.
